ProstAware announces sixth annual Blue Ties luncheon to raise prostate cancer awareness

Now in its sixth year of raising prostate cancer awareness in the Greater Atlanta area through music, technology, and sports, ProstAware’s Blue Ties luncheon returns to the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead, on Friday, Sept. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Jerry Carnes of 11-Alive WXIA-TV will again emcee the annual event, which benefits ProstAware’s mission of furthering prostate cancer education and awareness.

Dr. Scott Miller, the founder of ProstAware and a urologic laparoscopist, created the event to bring awareness to the prevalence of prostate cancer in the U.S. By using music, technology, and sports — commonly shared interests among most men — as vehicles to generate interest and discussion, Dr. Miller hopes that the event will encourage all men to consult with their personal physicians about their prostate health.

“ProstAware is the leading source of raising prostate cancer awareness and providing prostate health education in the Greater Atlanta area, a role we take very seriously,” said Dr. Miller. “But we also recognize the importance of having fun doing what we do, and each year the Blue Ties luncheon offers a unique and entertaining forum to promote prostate health. Essentially, we want men and their families to be more educated about the disease, and to use that knowledge to make the best decisions for their own health.”

Derrick Hall, President and CEO of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks, will deliver this year’s sports-focused keynote address. Considered by many to be among the leaders of the game, Hall has turned the Diamondbacks organization into a model franchise during his eight years at the helm of the club. Under Hall’s leadership, the Diamondbacks have won two National League West Division Championships (2007, 2011) and the National League Championship Series (2007) while also becoming one of the largest philanthropic entities in Arizona. As a prostate cancer survivor and tireless advocate of cancer-fighting charities, Hall regularly speaks publicly about his past diagnosis and health challenges to raise prostate cancer awareness and encourage other men to monitor their prostate health.

All funds raised from the Blue Ties luncheon will benefit ProstAware’s year-round educational programming. To purchase tickets, visit http://prostaware.org/blue-ties-event/ or call (770) 643-1807.
